Work in Progress

Tapering tangs.  Both aesthetically pleasing and performance enhancing by shifting the point of balance of a knife in the hand.  I taper almost every tang.

Get a Handle on it.

Came up with this handle scale glue up jig.  makes glueing liners to scale material much simpler.

After an hour or 2, finally at a clean 320 grit.  More to go.  This was M398 heat treated to 64 HRC.

Design day

You never know when the creative notion will strike.  Sketched the general idea at 9pm, refined it the next morning, rendered it on to steel that afternoon.

Josh Mazer is a 26 year veteran of the United States Navy, retiring from active service in 2022.  A part time knife maker for over 15 years, in 2025 he established Mazer Custom Knives, LLC to focus on full time custom knifemaking.

He specializes in small to medium sized knives for hunting, outdoor use and everyday carry, utilizing premium knife steels optimized for cutting, such as CPM S90V, CPM S110V, CPM 10V, K390, M398, AEBL, CPM 3V, and CPM 4V.  He will do limited runs in other steels on occasion.

​

Each knife is handmade; each sheath is hand stitched by his own hands.  The makers mark depicts the bow of a ship, head on.
